THE REALM OF THE SKY

Dan 10:10-14

the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days

Matthew 16:18-19

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven

Mat 11:12

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

The Greek here translated as the kingdom of heaven is basileia ouranos. It would be more literal to translate it as the realm of the sky. That is where the battle with the prince of the kingdom of Persia took place when Daniel prayed his prayer of chapter 9 and received the vision of chapter 10 in answer to that prayer.

The battle in the atmosphere still rages for dominion over the nations of the earth. It is fought with the weapons that Christ identified as the keys to the kingdom: just like Daniel, we are to pray to God, binding and loosing the angelic forces that contend for dominion over the earth. These battles take place in the realm of the sky, the heavenlies or high places indicated in Ephesians 6:12. They are won through the aggressive application of God's Word in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. That is the violence referred to in Matthew 11:12 above. (John 18:36) We are to take back the kingdom of heaven from the demonic forces that have tried to usurp it. That is the authority that God gave us when Christ handed us the keys to the kingdom.

The first advent of the Lord was announced by John the Baptist, who operated in the spirit and power of Elijah. (Mark 9:13). Whenever the spirit of Elijah is present, the demonic spirit of Jezebel appears as opposition. So in the time of Christ the battle raged in the realm of the sky for the possession of the Promised Land, and the anointing of God on Jesus took dominion to seize the kingdom of darkness and shake it to its very foundation. The victory was won when Christ Jesus appeared within the depths of hell itself, preached the gospel to the fallen angels reserved in chains of darkness, then turned to the righteous dead held captive in Paradise and led them out, breaking open the gates of hell to enable their escape.

Soon the spirit and person of Elijah will return to the streets of Jerusalem to witness again to the manifest glory and power of the risen Christ. Together he and Enoch will witness to the imminent return of our Lord. As they fulfill their ministries, the spirit of Jezebel will once again directly oppose them in the atmosphere over Israel. Perhaps the spirit of Jezebel will be manifest through Mystery Babylon. (Rev 17:1-7) Once again the forces of darkness will attempt to encircle and annihilate the people of God, the apple of God's eye. Once again they will taste the bitter fruit of defeat, poured out from the bowls in heaven on those who would come against the anointing. The prayers of the saints, stored up in heaven and then released as the keys to the kingdom, will unlock the jealous wrath of God for His chosen people Israel, and Jezebel and the forces of Antichrist will be consumed by the flames of their own wickedness. (Isa 9:18; Isa 10:15-19) God does not desire that any should perish, but all His ways are judgment (Deut 32:4) and He has already given His Son as the only path to restoration into right relationship with Him, and He has already determined the price for rejecting Christ as Lord and Savior.

As saints of God it is time for us to operate in the spirit and power of Elijah, taking the authority that Christ bestowed upon His church. The gifts and calling of God on our lives are not to be taken lightly, and Christ did not die just to save us as individuals, but also to anoint His Body of believers to carry out the will of the Father until His return. Thereafter the saints will administer the affairs of the universe as kings and priests.

The time has come to take up the mantle of Elijah and fight the battles in the heavenly places with all zeal and wisdom. The writing is on the wall. Don't let it be said of you, "Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting." (Dan 5:25-28) The King of glory is calling out to you, to share with Him by faith the eternal weight of glory contained within the scales of His justice. (Jer 23:5-6) His promises are Yes and Amen! (2Co 1:20)
