Targeting Our Weapons

The Weapons:

The blood of Jesus (Heb. 10:19-22; Heb. 9:14)
The name of Jesus (Phil. 2:10-11; Col. 3:17)
Fasting (Mat. 6:16-18)
Prayer in tongues (1Cor. 14:1-5)
Prayer with the understanding (1Cor. 14:13-15)
Praise and worship (Psa. 138:2)
The Word of God (Heb. 4:12)
Holy Spirit empowerment and giftings (1Cor. 12:1-11)

While we know that Jesus made a public display of principalities and powers when He spoiled them, this is not a passive battle for us. Our part now is to take the authority that God delegated to us through Jesus and pick up that word sword and fight back against the evil that tries to beset us. If the sword of the Spirit stays in its sheath it is essentially ineffective in our lives. Christ demonstrated this when He dispatched the devil in the wilderness by using the word of God. 2COR 10:5-6 makes it plain also: casting down.......bringing into captivity......having in a readiness! These are words of action that lead to triumph in Christ. Let us always remember that the war begins in the mind of the believer. In order to gain victory we have to use all of the weapons available to us and use them in the proper manner.
Excerpt from Stronghold, Imaginations, and High Things posting on 11/25/2011
2Co 10:3  For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2Co 10:4  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2Co 10:5  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Co 10:6  And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

I believe this Scripture points to a three-step progression by which wrong thinking is first established and then reinforced.  This page details ways in which all three instruments are used by our enemy Satan in this process.

Greek ochuroma okh-oo'-ro-mah
fortification, castle ..... defense mechanism

Strong holds can be viewed as the foundation stones of a fortress intended to protect wicked thoughts that lead to wicked behavior.  In this case the fortification is built to protect wrong modes of thinking. No matter the source, the Lord will move upon these fortifications to tear down the walls and access those areas in our souls that need change. Just as Adam and Eve did in the garden after sin entered in, to this day the soul attempts to hide wrong thinking from God in order to justify disobedience. God gave mankind instruction. When  Adam disobeyed he hid, and God asked "Where are you?" It wasn't that God couldn't find him, the question was used to reveal Adam to himself, so God could start to deal with him. The question identified the stronghold that Satan had already erected, a barrier between God and man.

Here is a list the Lord showed me, of ways that strongholds are initiated and perpetuated:
  • traditions
  • opinions
  • doubt & unbelief
  • strife
  • possession/opression
  • propaganda
  • compromise
  • underestimation
As you start to focus on these things and submit your will to God, He will clearly identify things in your thought patterns that need to be removed from your soul. This is a restorative process, and while it can be very disconcerting at times,  He will free you from sin and penetrate deeper layers as He draws you nearer to Him.

Greek logismos log-is-mos'
reasoning, conceit ..... vain concepts of self

Imaginations are used as the second step in this process. Like castle walls, imaginations build on the strong hold foundations to wall off these wicked thoughts and patterns from examination in an attempt to justify wrong behaviors.  The entire book of Ecclesiastes addresses this human weakness. Vanity is the sin that temporarily tore apart God's plan for the ages when the archangel Lucifer walked through the door of pride. It is the same sin that Satan (he was renamed after his transgression, he will try to do that to you if you allow him to) used to produce a rift in God's angelic hosts in order to lead one third of the angels away from God. It is the same sin that Satan and his demonic followers use to lead astray flesh and blood humans and to try to thwart God's plan.

Greek hupsoma hoop'-so-mah
high barrier ..... the narrow ledge where conceit leads

High things are used as the third step in this process. Once the castle walls are in place, lookouts are posted in the high places to warn of the approach of any threats to the castle. High things are the ultimate rebellion against God, as they represent vain attempts to reach up to His level through human means.
The conceited humans in Genesis 11 were the first example of this, although there have been many, MANY examples of this since.  People who refuse to acknowledge their Creator ultimately try to make a name for themselves, become self-made success stories, get puffed up and full of themselves, etc, etc, on and on and on. (Gen 11:4) God sees this as the ultimate example of disrespect toward Him, and as a result of this first example He confounded language. Take the lesson: God is loving and kind, and He is just. He will not tolerate rebellion. He created man to receive His blessing and be His partner, not to try to go his own way in total disregard for His directions.

We learn at all times to focus our faith through God to receive the liberating effects of His anointing.  Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit says the LORD of hosts; and I will deliver you from oppression and bondage in your soul.  Return unto Me.  Submit to Me, says the LORD; resist the devouring seed eater.  I will rebuke the devouring locust and restore to you the years.
