RRB notes on Psalm 79
Psalms 79 KJV
A Psalm of Asaph.
1. O God, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps. [a]
[a] Double application: A.D. 70 and Tribulation (Zech. 14:1-2).
2. The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth. [1]
[1] Nothing in verses 1-4 took place during Asaph’s lifetime. He is prophesying about the events that took place in Jeremiah 39 and Lamentations 2-5, and what will take place in the Tribulation.
3. Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; [2] and there was none to bury them.
[2] The ones who shed the blood of Jews are identified in the Scriptures as Europeans (Ezek. 38:2), Asiatics (Rev. 16:12), and Africans (Ezek. 38:5). Those three races cover every major nation in the UN (see App. 58).
4. We are become a reproach to our neighbours, [b] a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.
[b] Vss. 4-5 are a description of the Jews in the Church Age.
5. How long, LORD? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?
6. Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, [3] and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name. [c]
[3] This prayer for the destruction of the United Nations includes all the religions of the heathen as well: Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, etc.
[c] “Thy name” – Jehovah in the Old Testament; Jesus in the New Testament. Never Allah.
7. For they have devoured Jacob, and laid waste his dwelling place. [d]
[d] Vss. 6-7 are laid out in opposite chronological order. Vs. 6 is the Second Advent; vs. 7 is the Tribulation.
8. O remember not against us former iniquities: [e] let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.
[e] Rom. 11:26-27; Acts 3:19-20; Jer. 33:8; Ezek. 37:23.
9. Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge [4] away our sins, for thy name’s sake.
[4] The NIV destroys the sense of the verse by changing “purge” to “atone” so you’d think everything in the passage was fulfilled in Matthew 27, when it wasn’t (Heb. 8:10-12; Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 11:26-27).
10. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed. [f]
[f] Rev. 6:9-11.
11. Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die; [g]
[g] Psa. 88:15; see also notes on Psa. 44:7, 56:1.
12. And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord. [h]
[h] Tribulation (Psa. 74:10, 18, 22; Rev. 16:10-11).
13. So we thy people and sheep of thy pasture will give thee thanks for ever: we will shew forth thy praise to all generations. [5]
[5] The Liberty Bible Commentary illustrates the muddled incoherency of Jerry Falwell’s long-tenured apostates, who write, “The psalmist’s concern is that the name of God would be blasphemed among the heathen if Jehovah didn’t rescue His own.” 1) Jehovah did not “rescue HIs own” (Lam. 2-5), 2) “the heathen” did blaspheme His name and still do (2 Kings 19:3-4; Psa. 74:10; Rev. 13:6), and 3) in the New Testament, Paul compelled Jews who hadn’t trusted Christ to blaspheme (Acts 26:11).

_______
Note on Psa. 44:7 But thou hast saved us from our enemies, [d] and hast put them to shame that hated us. [1]
[d] Second Advent (Luke 1:70-74).
[1] Verses 5-7 have no application to any Jew between A.D. 33 to 2008. The present condition of the Jew in the Church Age and Tribulation is described in verses 9-16. As we’ve said before, if you put yourself in the place of an orthodox Jew in Sobibor, Auschwitz, Dachau, Treblinka, Madjanek, or Buchenwald and then tried to read your Bible at night for comfort, you’d turn into an atheist. Imagine watching your sons getting tortured to death, your daughters being gassed, and you being starved to death while trying to “claim” Psalms 44:7, 91:7, 107:19-20, 115:14-15, 116:6-9, and 118:10-13!

Note on Psa. 56:1 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. [a]
[a] See notes on Psa. 27:5 and 44:7 in regards to vss. 1, 7, 9, 13.
